Skating as a family

I remember skating as a kid on my cousins pond in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Maybe once or twice a year it would get cold enough to freeze solid enough to skate on.  My Uncle Warren would build a fire and we would stay out as long as we could, which wasn't very long!  Brrrr.... I thought it was cold.

Now, since I live in the freezing cold north, we can skate anywhere, almost all winter!
Some years Jeff will "make" a rink on the lake by keeping it shoveled off and flooding it till it is smooth.  This year, we just decided to use the community rink.  Much easier!

Skating is a favorite family activity, I'm not sure what I think of that yet.  My husband loves it, he grew up here!  He enjoys hockey.  The three oldest are really skating fairly well for their age!

Me?  I finally  bought my very own, first ever pair of skates,  last year.
I've used them...... maybe 5 times.

Well, I'm hoping as our little ones get older and they can all skate, it will be more fun.
Last week, we took them all to the rink at the rec center.  After helping them all get their skates tied, we finally got out there to skate.  I think we were out there 5 -10 minutes before my little guy had to go to the bathroom!  After a frustrating day earlier,  this was all I needed for a reason to kick off my skates and go home.
Maybe next year Dylan will be able to skate and it will be more fun.
It is great exercise!
